You’re entitled to a free NHS eye examination at the practice if you are:

• Under 16, or under 19 and in full time education
• Aged 60 or over
• Registered blind or partially sighted
• Diagnosed as having diabetes or glaucoma
• Aged 40 or over with an immediate, direct relative with glaucoma, or you have been advised by an ophthalmologist that you are at risk of glaucoma
• Prescribed a complex lens.

Following your eye examination, you can choose from our large choice of spectacle frames, lens and contact lens options, including classic single vision spectacle lenses starting from £36.20 (or free with NHS GOS3 voucher. Or there’s the Bifocal or Varifocal options from £62.70 (or free with NHS GOS3 voucher).

Did you know?

That in Hertfordshire, falls remain the greatest cause of lack of independence, and the associated need for residential care, in those aged over 65. So this year we’ll be supporting the NHS and AgeUK’s National Falls Awareness Week, 20-24 June. This year, the focus is Watch Your Step, and aims to tackle the link between reduced vision and falls. And we want tell our clients about the importance of regular eye-health checks, and how vital it is that you’re wearing the right spectacles.

There is an estimated 52,000 falls in older people in the country each year, but there is good evidence that early identification, such as a simple eye test, can help reduce this number.

If you think that yourself, or an older family member, would benefit for getting their prescription checked, we offer free eye examinations and eye health tests for the over 60s.

Just to remind you that we’re open 9am until 5pm six days a week.

Eye examinations and contact lens appointments are available Monday to Saturday with either of our two experienced Optometrists, Gillian Bamford or Nigel Brown.

There is also free car parking on Saturdays and after 3pm every day in the public car park.

We understand that times might be tight for some. Or perhaps you’re in need of an emergency pair of spectacles, or a second pair, and are looking to keep the cost down.

So now we’re stocking a budget frame collection. Gold classic frames are available. Plus there are options for single vision lenses, bifocals and varifocals- subject to your prescription being within a power range.

We’re pleased to advise that we’ve been making some improvements to our practice to ensure that all our customers have easy access and a full range of services.

These include:

• Free NHS eye examinations for all over 60s and diabetics
• Disabled access improvements – we’ve removed the ramp so there are no significant obstacles
• Making the consulting rooms a closer distance from the main door to help our disabled and elderly customers
• Now both consulting rooms have wide door access and are wheelchair accessible

Plus, new free driver pick up and drop off
Riverside Taxis, based in Buntingford, have passed their NVQII Road Passenger Vehicle Driving qualification which is an extra qualification they have undergone to ensure safe travel for children, the disabled, elderly passengers, and less mobile people. 

We are an independent practice who welcome all ages, and we would like to make it more accessible to elderly and less able customers by offering a complimentary driver courtesy of Riverside Taxis to pick you up from your home and drop you back off for your appointment. Please call us to see if we can arrange this for you on 01763 273300.
 
In addition to this, we can provide a complimentary home visit for delivery of your spectacles if you are less able to come into the practice, and home visits for repairs of your spectacles for a fee depending on your location.
