At the Late Night Shopping Event, we will be supporting the charity Optometry Giving Sight. This is a fundraising initiative working with practices such as ourselves to help fund sustainable projects in the developing world through the training of local people and building of vision centres.

To date Optometry Giving Sight has funded projects in over 21 countries, trained over 2,200 local people to become eye care professionals and this has offered over 3.8 million people an eye examination and the spectacles they’ve needed.

The Buntingford Late Night Shopping event is on Friday 2 December. We’d love you to join us at the practice on the night for a complimentary glass of wine or orange juice courtesy of Andrew at the Wine Cellar, and cheese tasting from Toby at the Cheese Platter.

Late Night Shopping is an excellent community event. The High Street is illuminated and the shops stay open until 8pm. You can watch the lighting of the ‘Lights of Love’ tree in aid o f Isabel Hospice, join in with the carol service and the kids can enjoy the fun fair and Santa’s Sleigh.

Buntingford local businesses pull out all the stops to make the Late Night Shopping event one to remember and the window displays along the High Street get you in the Christmas spirit. This year our practice has an exclusive winter display of flowers by Crazy Daisy in the fireplace, and Country Flowers are creating a festive display for our front desk.

Did you know?

That in Hertfordshire, falls remain the greatest cause of lack of independence, and the associated need for residential care, in those aged over 65. So this year we’ll be supporting the NHS and AgeUK’s National Falls Awareness Week, 20-24 June. This year, the focus is Watch Your Step, and aims to tackle the link between reduced vision and falls. And we want tell our clients about the importance of regular eye-health checks, and how vital it is that you’re wearing the right spectacles.

There is an estimated 52,000 falls in older people in the country each year, but there is good evidence that early identification, such as a simple eye test, can help reduce this number.

If you think that yourself, or an older family member, would benefit for getting their prescription checked, we offer free eye examinations and eye health tests for the over 60s.

Just to remind you that we’re open 9am until 5pm six days a week.

Eye examinations and contact lens appointments are available Monday to Saturday with either of our two experienced Optometrists, Gillian Bamford or Nigel Brown.

There is also free car parking on Saturdays and after 3pm every day in the public car park.

We’re pleased to advise that we’ve been making some improvements to our practice to ensure that all our customers have easy access and a full range of services.

These include:

• Free NHS eye examinations for all over 60s and diabetics
• Disabled access improvements – we’ve removed the ramp so there are no significant obstacles
• Making the consulting rooms a closer distance from the main door to help our disabled and elderly customers
• Now both consulting rooms have wide door access and are wheelchair accessible

Plus, new free driver pick up and drop off
Riverside Taxis, based in Buntingford, have passed their NVQII Road Passenger Vehicle Driving qualification which is an extra qualification they have undergone to ensure safe travel for children, the disabled, elderly passengers, and less mobile people. 

We are an independent practice who welcome all ages, and we would like to make it more accessible to elderly and less able customers by offering a complimentary driver courtesy of Riverside Taxis to pick you up from your home and drop you back off for your appointment. In addition to this, we can provide a complimentary home visit for delivery of your spectacles if you are less able to come into the practice, and home visits for repairs of your spectacles for a fee depending on your location.

To celebrate the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Buntingford will be hosting a good old fashioned street party on Friday 29 April in the High Street.
