Eye exams

ADvanced Eye Examinations

For an advanced eye examination and a detailed assessment of your overall eye health, we recommend you allow up to an hour at Radley Opticians.

Our private adult eye examination fee is £75.

During your eye examination, you will be asked to complete a series of tests which are all designed to assess your visual status (whether you might be long or short-sighted) and eye health. None of these are difficult or painful in any way, but are important for your optometrist to be able to accurately prescribe any eyewear, if this is necessary.

Our service includes dispensing and any adjustments that may be required following your sight test.

OCT Scan

Our OCT scan uses the advanced Topcon Maestro to capture detailed 3D images of the back of your eye, helping detect early signs of eye conditions like glaucoma and macular degeneration. It’s quick, non-invasive, and incredibly thorough. Early detection can help address any concerns before they progress further.

Optomap Imaging

We’re proud to be the only practice in Buntingford offering our patients the advanced Optomap scan. This cutting-edge technology provides an ultra-wide view of your retina—far more than a traditional eye test—helping our Optometrists detect conditions such as retinal tears, diabetes and more, often before symptoms appear. It’s fast, safe and requires no drops.

Optomap captures a highly detailed digital image of the back of your eye, revealing up to 80% of your retina in a single ultra-wide panoramic scan. In comparison, traditional methods typically show only 10–15% of the retina.

The process is quick, painless, and non-contact, taking just a few moments, with nothing touching your eyes.

DNEye® Scanner

Lenses designed around your eyes

The DNEye® Scanner measures how your eyes process light, giving us an ultra-precise view of your vision. It helps us tailor glasses or lenses that correct even the smallest imperfections. See more clearly and comfortably with customised eyewear made to measure.

At J Oliver Radley we believe exceptional vision starts with precision. No two eyes are identical, so why rely on standardised lens designs? That’s why we use the Rodenstock DNEye® Scanner, one of the most advanced diagnostic systems available, to create lenses tailored specifically to you.

The DNEye Scanner captures thousands of data points from your eyes. It measures not only your prescription, but also:

  • How your eyes perform in different lighting conditions
  • How they focus at varying distances
  • Subtle optical characteristics across the entire visual field

This detailed biometric profile allows us to design lenses built uniquely for your eyes, not based on population averages.

These are biometric lenses. And they redefine what glasses should feel like.

Myopia management

Managing Myopia for Clearer Futures

Myopia, or short-sightedness, makes distant objects appear blurry. People with myopia often need glasses to see clearly. Alarmingly, myopia is increasing worldwide, and children are developing it at younger ages.

Higher levels of myopia are linked to serious eye conditions, including glaucoma, cataracts, retinal detachment, and myopic maculopathy. These issues arise because myopia causes the eye to elongate, stretching and thinning the retina, which makes it more prone to damage.

Can Myopia be slowed down?

Yes. Evidence shows that myopia progression in children can be slowed using both optical and lifestyle strategies. These approaches have been shown to slow myopia progression in a large proportion of children. By combining optical interventions with healthy habits, it’s possible to reduce the progression of short-sightedness and lower the risk of future eye problems.

Fabulous service from Mel at Oliver Radley this morning. Not only did she tighten up my sunglasses she found me a case to keep them in so I don’t wear them on my head! Thanks so much!
